The VERY First Time...

WOW! This was the very, very, very first quilt I COMPLETED! I say it like that because there is a baby quilt out there that was CLOSE to being completed when I realized I really wanted to be able to say I OWNED the first quilt I completed...so I got to work on (and finished) this one before actual completion of the baby quilt. I "get" that his is a little twisted, but so am I. :-)









Basically it is a small lap sized wall hanging...LOL...The pattern called for it to be a kid sized lap quilt, and it was done in pinks and greens. I can't remember what magazine it was from, and I am too lazy to go try to find it. However, the funny part is that when I saw it I instantly thought of how simple and easy it would be! LOL, I have been quilting longer now and think this was quite ambitious for a first time project! Thank you Jackie, for seeing me through this one. You have infinite patience, I now know...LOL

A Labor of Love

This quilt was SO much fun. It was made for my daughter. It was a group effort. My Sister In Law is an awesome, amazing, talented quilter. For years she lived near (ish) me and gently suggested I might like quilting. I resisted (What is the point when you are incapable of sewing a straight line?). Approximately one month after she moved half way across the country I decided I wanted to learn to quilt (Yeah, I know all about great timing!). At any rate, she had a friend who quilted and was going to be moving close to me. So, long story short, her friend (and now mine!) taught me and my daughter how to quilt (something I will always be grateful to both of them for).

Along comes April, and I decide a fantastic gift for my book loving daughter would be a "bookshelf" quilt. Then I had a brilliant (yes, I am taking credit...LOL) idea that it would be awesome for Kim (my daughter) to receive a quilt made by her mother, her quilt teacher (Jackie) and her Aunt (Suzanne)....OK, only slight logistical problems involved here (remember the move half way across the country?)

Regardless of our geographical issues we did it (ON TIME!). We super personalized this. I went and took pictures of the hundreds of books my girly could not consider parting with, so each block represents something she really owns and loves. Many of the books have titles embroidered on them, the fabrics were all chosen specifically for what they represent. It was a lot of fun, and she loves it (PHEW! I am so glad!)

I say "this one" mainly because there were several "football quilts" to follow it
...which I didn't know at the time!

A Gifted Quilt...

OK, This is not really a gifted quilt. It was a quilt which I gifted to a friend! It is one of my versions of a "Brick" quilt. It was fun, quick and I beleive it is well loved in it's new home. This was also one of my first attempts at doing everything from start to finish...all on my own. For the record I made and gave this in August 2008.
